Purchases and sales of freehold residential property

The registry, in which contracts for the sale of land in Jersey are lodged, has existed since the time when Sir Walter Raleigh was governor of the island. Until November 2006 these contracts were all recorded in French.

When you buy a home Viberts will check the title to the property. This involves reviewing all contracts passed by the previous owners over at least the past 40 years. It is not unusual to have to research contracts, which date back to the nineteenth century or beyond. In addition, we will conduct a site visit to your new home to make sure that the boundaries recorded in your contract of purchase match what is found on the ground.

When you come to sell your home, Viberts will:

  • Draft your contract of sale
  • Deal with queries raised by the purchasers
  • Liaise with your lenders to make sure that we have the correct figure to repay your mortgage on completion
  • Transfer the funds on sale to your chosen account.
