James was born in Jersey and attended Victoria College. He gained his law degree at Kingston University before moving to the College of Law in York where he obtained his English Law Society Legal Practice Certificate. James then spent one year studying French at the University of Nantes before returning to Jersey whereupon he became an Advocate in 2001.

Whilst James’s main specialisation is property law he also has extensive knowledge of family law.

"I have always had a connection with the sea. My father is a Captain and I have early memories of being on his boat. I sail (when I get the time) and enjoy the demands of yacht racing. My career however, is focused on the law and in particular property law.
 
I chose the new Elizabeth Marina as the place to have my photo taken because it is a fusion of the two. The waterfront is the most controversial development area on the island. It has huge potential for development and with the potential comes the responsibility to get it right."
