Chris joined Viberts in January 2021 as a Scottish Solicitor and he was promoted to Senior Associate in February 2022. He specialises in high profile and complex employment matters and data protection law. Chris advises senior executives, private businesses and public sector entities on all aspects of employment and data protection law. He is regularly sought after to deliver training on a host of employment and data protection issues. Chris also provides support on matters such as employment investigations, mediations and corporate governance issues. He works closely with Corporate and Litigation colleagues as part of larger transaction teams.
Chris has provided advice on a host of employment issues including:
- Advisory – recruitment and hiring, drafting and negotiating employment contracts, agency and contractor arrangements, secondments, employee relations, works councils and unions, flexible working, diversity and equality, hours and pay, corporate governance, boardroom and senior executive issues, grievance handling, whistle-blowing and disciplinary issues
- Transactional – employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions, relocations and restructurings
- Litigation – contentious matters and dispute resolution including litigation and conciliation of employee claims involving discrimination, bonus disputes, protection of confidential information and restrictive covenants
- Regulatory investigations – complex employment investigations and disputes involving misconduct and whistle-blowing
- Corporate governance – boardroom diversity, remuneration governance, non-executive arrangements, senior manager regimes, director contracts
- Immigration – business immigration and licensing advice
In relation to data protection Chris has advised on matters including:
- Roles and duties of the Data Protection Officer and data privacy impact assessments
- Data subject access request and data breaches
- International data transfers
- Liaising with the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner
