Following the successful completion of their Jersey Advocates exams this year, Managing Associate, Oliver Hughes and Associates Rebecca De Freitas and Rebecca Gueno were sworn in as Jersey Advocates with Elisabetta Quaranta being sworn in as a Jersey Écrivain (Jersey Solicitor) on 11 December 2025 in the Royal Court.
This announcement marks a significant milestone both for the lawyers concerned and for Viberts in general as the firm consolidates its position as the largest law firm advising exclusively on matters of Jersey law.
The practice of Jersey law is a demanding and fulfilling career. Viberts has therefore introduced a series of thoughtfully defined steps for its talented young lawyers to take on a career path leading to a local qualification in Jersey law.

The new Advocates are:
Oliver Hughes - joined Viberts in March 2020. He now has over 13 years’ experience of Jersey commercial law acting for both private individuals and businesses and accompanying them through the wide range of challenges confronting a modern business, with particular interests in IT, regulatory and employment matters and Jersey Private Funds. Oliver is a prolific and insightful commentator on his area of law reaching readers in the Jersey and business communities abroad with his ‘Expresso’ series of Linked-In essays providing both clarity and direction on often complicated subjects.
Rebecca De Freitas - qualified as an English Solicitor in 2023 after joining Viberts in 2020. She was also a bursary student with Viberts having been a part of the firm since 2015 before completing her legal studies in the UK. Rebecca is part of the Employment team advising and assisting on employment law matters. She advises on compromise agreements and other contentious employment matters such as unfair dismissal, constructive dismissal and discrimination claims, acting for both employers and employees. Rebecca also advises on contract terms (including restrictive covenants and confidentiality) and a wide range of employment-related documents.
Rebecca Gueno - joined Viberts in 2020 and is an English solicitor based in Viberts’ Dispute Resolution team. Rebecca completed her Law Degree at Durham University in 2013 and her Master’s degree in international legal practice in 2014. Rebecca then returned to Jersey where she has worked in several contrasting contentious fields including crime, fraud, insolvency, personal injury, medical negligence family law and property litigation. Rebecca is an extremely tenacious litigator who leaves no stone unturned in the pursuit of justice for her clients.
The new Écrivain:
Elisabetta Quaranta – Elisabetta joined Viberts in June 2025 as a Legal Assistant in the Family Law team previously working in law for more than 15 years. She works in all areas of family law including matrimonial finance, divorce and private children issues which includes child maintenance, residence and contact matters. Elisabetta has a compassionate and practical approach supporting clients through what can be complex and emotionally challenging situation. She speaks fluent Portuguese.
